Sonia Navarro

Considering the impossibility of movement and the housework traditionally performed by women as the driving force of my art, the materials I use are thread, needles, fabrics and anything related to sewing. The latest works I’ve made entail a process in which the city and freedom have a strong presence, expressed through media such as sculpture, installation, photography and drawing. I create pieces that challenge and confront the mechanisms and institutions of power, especially those that have helped to shape the historical gender hierarchy, exploring the female reality in the rural world and reflecting on the constant struggle of women and established patterns.
