Javier Codesal

My projects incorporate videos, photographs, drawings and texts. I treat the corporeal as a place of difference, the seat of eroticism and delight, but also of frailty, illness and death. I am interested in popular culture, oral expression and song, as well as in audiovisual portraiture, trying different approaches to intimacy. I study violence, its representation and its effects. Childhood, heritage and cultural transmission are other themes that influence my work. And everything I do is coloured by a determination to test the barest, starkest forms of cinema.
