Almudena Lobera
Almudena Lobera (Madrid, 1984) lives and works in Madrid and Belgium. She has a BFA and an MA in Art, Creation and Research from the Complutense University of Madrid, and is a certified laureate of the HISK Advanced Studies & Practice-based Research in Visual Arts programme in Ghent, Belgium. She has done international residencies in various cities—São Paulo, Rome, Paris, Ghent, Tokyo, etc.—where she developed site-specific projects. Lobera’s practice encompasses drawing, installation, recorded actions and other media. She explores the notions of perception, representation and the spectator’s role in contemporary society, proposing other ways of understanding our relationship with images and the visible and altering the standard logic of exhibition spaces. Her projects denote an interest in connecting the legacy of classical periods in the history of art and representation with the ephemeral, virtual qualities of the modern-day image.
